I have had Home Studio 9 for about a year. I have basically filled up my 13G hard drive with cakewalk files. I attempted to do some file management last year and lost 13 songs. As terrified as I am to try it again, I have to do something. I need someone to give me step by step instructions on how to accomplish this.

I need to keep the .wrk files and their associated .wav files intact to be reworked in the future. I know the app has bundling capabilites but I don't know how to use them or even if that is what I want to do. Is it possible to save songs with all of their files intact in an external source? Can you open from and save to floppy or CD?

If you would like to help, please keep in mind that I know very little of this part of the program. Thanks!

Well, it kind of depends on what your major storage media is. Floppies don't hold that much data. If you have a CD burner or other form, this is hwat you do. Open your tune, go to file/save as and under save as type, pick Cakewalk bundle from the drop down box, you can use the same name as the song because it is a different file extension (bun vs wrk). Save it someplace like your hard drive. When you get enough, burn a cd or whatever you do to back up. Then you can delete the wrk files from your hard disk. Afterwards, open cake, go to the tools menu and clear out the now unneeded audio files. Good luck!!

...you'll have to burn those .bun files as data, not audio, of course. You knew that, right?

I would highly recommend that you load the files from the cd back into CW, as a precaution and to check your work, before you do any deleting of wrk. files from the hard drive.

When saving as a bundle it would also be a good idea to right click on properties of the file to see how big it is . . .as sizes of bundles will vary depending on sample & bit rate used in the recording process. Remember a cd holds approx 650meg plus you should allow yourself extra space for any file swapping that will take place during the burning process.

The idea here is, to start slowly and be confident of your every step.

Well, thanks everyone. Not really a surprise. I guess my fear was trying to make it seem more complicated. I think I'll create a track just for file saving practice, that way It won't hurt so bad if something goes wrong. I hope I can get the courage up to do it with the real stuff and save myself the money of buying a bigger hard drive.

Thanks again!!
