Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie,I need some suggestions.

I'm a lyricist and poet,I've been at it for quite some years,Right now I'm having a DAW built,I'm going by the book in example "256MB of RAM,Pentium Processor,2 hard drives at 7200 RPM's and Etc.

Ok here's the good part,I've came across the cakewalk webpage and I saw that they start distributing Fruity Loops,They say you can intergrate it with Cakewalk Club Tracks,This is where I need help at,I want to know would it be a good idea to use 2 different hosting software,I also saw that Club Tracks
have the "Express" version but I want the "Pro" version because it has a bass generator and if i can use both what would be a good hard drive to store it in,I was planning to use a 40 GB
for my audio files now I'm trying to decide what will be a good drive to hold my operating system and applications,If anybody have any suggestions tell me what you think,I would gladly appreciate it.

Thanks... C²

club tracks may have an easy way to load loops from fruity loops, but acid is pretty easy to use with FL too.

i'm curious, are you planning on using FL with a midi controller like a keyboard or phatt boy?

hard drives? i went with maxtor , but there are others...anything ATA 100 should be good....though, your motherboard has to support it to get maximum performance....

Prospective Controller

Hello,

I'm planning to use a keyboard controller with Fruity Loops,
Because I'm mainly after modulation, pitch shifting and the ability to sustain from a pedal.

I'm currently building a library of
loops and phrases also,I'm into funk
kind of like Prince or Digital Underground type without the quirky
characters and the "Beyond Deep" lyrics.

I was looking at the newer version
of Acid Pro,It's sharp,I might look into that.

Thanks for the advice.

ACID PRO is going to be a lot more expensive than CLUB TRACKS, however, there are less expensive versions of ACID that might work for you....there should be ACID demos available from SONIC FOUNDRY.....for the price, CLUB TRACKS looks neat, given that you get a version of FRUITY LOOPS....if you're already a registered CAKEWALK user you can get CLUB TRACKS directly from CAKEWALK for $19, which means that you can probably get a copy at best buy or somewhere for around $29.....unless it's a download only deal....i didn't see a demo of CLUB TRACKS on CAKEWALK'S site....that sucks...

if you're still shopping for a hard drive, do a search...there are plenty of discussions about hard drives on this BBS, as well as sound cards , motherboards, etc....

if you are planning to use a midi controller with FRUITY LOOPS then latency is an issue....your soundcard and soundcard drivers will figure largely here.......to get the lowest latency it's generally best to have the latest drivers for your soundcard....(though, in rare cases, driver updates can be less satisfactory than what you already have. but this isn't typical...in general you want to go with the latest drivers)...there are plenty of discussions on this BBS and elsewhere on how to acheive optimal latency configurations....

good luck
j
