Cakewalk and interfaces

I recently got a new computer with Windows XP. I have an ADAT LX20 and a mixing board. I want to be able to record on or through the ADAT into the computer and mix/edit on the computer.

I have been looking around for a compatible software program and an interface to go with it.

How is Cakewalk SONAR? What interfaces would it work with? What would I need to add to it to make it work for me. Anyone with experience on this or an opinion, please chime in...........

If you have a mixer, and you want to multitrack to PC , check out the Delta 1010. It supports Sonar on any Microsoft OS you'd want to use.

I do have a mixer. Do you use the Delta?/SONAR? How are they.........?


I have worked on my friends computer, a Mac G4, with a MOTU interface that seems to work well (he uses Digital Performer).
 
I havent used Sonar but the older Cakewalk version was pretty easy to use. If you just want to do audio and not midi you should check out Ntracks or CoolEditPro. They are a lot easier to manage. But Sonar is very popular.

You really dont need the Adat anymore unless you want to use it for mobile recording. You can do 24+ channels of 24bit on the computer with a good sound card like the Delta's.

If you do want to use the ADAT there are some cards that have the adat digital port (that I cant remember the name of) So you can transfer the 8tracks at once digitally.
 
I'm probably going to keep using the ADAT and send it through an interface into the computer. I can also take it on remote stuff, if necessary.

How are those programs? Ntracks and Cool Edit Pro? XP compatible?

I just want to get as much info before I make to purchase.
