cakewalk 8 recording

I want to record my band using my cakewalk program. How do I record the instruments live to cakewalk? I've only recorded my guitar and vocals through my mixing board then into my computer through the mic jack. I guess what I mean is- is there something between the instruments and the computer that I can get to have all the instruments recording on separate tracks of cakewalk?

You need a multitrack digital audio interface which contains analog-to-digital converters that take line level signals and digitize them, and you probably need a mixer to capture the sounds from the band (via mics) and get them to line level. There are some digital audio interfaces that have mic preamps built in, which depending on the number of them and how many you need for your purposes might or might not work.
