Cakewalk 8-9 or Cubase VST 24

Hi guys!
As I say I am a new bird in the field of compies! But don't underestimate me either as I am into music for more than 12 years!... But only acoustic!!
And now I want to creat and record my own music. What I have is a P-III 500 with 128 MB RAM and a MAXI ISIS sound card.My question is that whether I should go for Cakewalk 8 or 9 or Cubase VST24.

I tink that Cubase is a little difficult to use , but Cakewalk 8 doesn't have realtime effects! So how can I record some percussion instruments using the inbuilt Compressors!
What I heard is that Cubase 24 provides realtim effects. So PLEASE guide me!

I'm not that familiar with Cubase 24, but Cakewalk 8 and 9 do have realtime effects. Feel free to email me and I will tell you about it.

Hi TNO,

If you're just getting into all of this music technology stuff, then Cakewalk is probably your best bet. It doesn't present as steep a learning curve as Cubase.

Cakewalk provides real-time effects, but only during playback at the moment. If you want to compress your signal during recording, you'll have to use an external compressor unit.

What I think is that I shall go for Cakewalk but at the same time might give a try to Cubase at a friends studio.

I've got Cubase VST, Cakewalk 9 and Logic audio 4.1. I use cakewalk cos they started out on windows and it's more stable and easier to use because of all the right click functions that the guys who went to mac lost out on.
