I did a search, but I didn't come up with anything helpful...

Do you folks know anything about this mic?
What's it good for?

I have a chance to get ahold of one for a pretty decent price, but I wanted to get your opinions first...

Lots of people seem to like the mic for kick drum. Pretty decent mic, but it's hypercardioid pattern limits its versatility. not great on vocals. I once heard a fabulous sax sound on it, and I've seen more than a couple use it for a thick upright bass sound.

What's a pretty decent price?

My first post! Just a student looking to learn as much as possible...

Cad E100 .I belive its a 1/2 inch cap..I've had one for about 5 or 6 years..Ive tried it on alot of things. It has worked well on some vox{very sensitive to plosives use a pop filter}.. on one male vocal it worked very well!I have used it on a guitar amp with some nice results. I've used it as a spot mic on drums with decent results.I never really liked it on acoustic guit..Can be run without phantom power ..two 9 volt batterys will power it..If you can get it for a hundred bucks or less its a good buy. When I got mine they were about 350.00 or 400.00..now new I think they run about 199.00..Try before you buy if you can..Good luck

E-100s

I have 2 E-100s and use them all the time, mostly for instruments.
It sounds good for my voice (baritonish/thin) which is why I bought it to begin with, but I have found I get a great sound on percussion using a stereo spread about 6ft up and facing downward. I have also gotten some really good acoustic guitar sounds putting one about ear level up 18" out towards bridge and the other up about 12th fret high 18" out panned 2 and 4 oClock.

I paid about $150 a piece for mine used ,I wouldn't pay much more-you can get them on Ebay all the time for about that.

FYI The CAD/Equitek E-100s have been recently discontinued too. The mics have a supercardioid pattern & not a hypercardioid pattern. I had a matched pair which worked quite well at the time I owned them. Great for acoustic guitar IMHO.
