I just got a pari of Alesis M1 Actives.

My fw-1884 has balanced 1/4" outputs. the M1 has the option of 1/4" or XLR connects.

Should I use one of those 1/4" male to XLR Male cables, or just use 1/4" TRS?

is their a sound difference for a mere 6 foot cable?

The difference in the connector won't make any difference in the sound. Use a good quality cable with what ever ends you choose.

Farview is right. As long as the 1/4" cable is balanced (TRS) than there is no difference. The only real advantage to XLR is that there is more room for soldering, and it locks into place. 1/4 " is more likely to accidentally be yanked out if the cable gets stepped on or something. However, in the same situation, an XLR cable will stay in place and as a result may pull your speaker over:)
