Cable Management 101

I'd appreciate any help here. Here goes: I've got 2 6 space skb rotoracks (each with their own 'rack rider' power thingies) and I am concerned about all the power cords running every which way back there. I'd like to make sure they are'nt causing any interference with my audio as I've noticed a small bit of buzz on my recordings. So what I tried was bunching the cords in the back upper corner of the rack and !duct taping! them to the plastic of the rack. Does anyone have any other solutions?
Also my cd burner is situated over my power amp in the rack. Is that bad? I should probably move things around I'm thinking.

You can probably get the stuff cheaper at Home Depot but this should give you some ideas.

That duct tape is going to be a real mess when you need to separate those cables. The longer you leave it on the gummier it gets.

I use tie wraps and velcro to get cables to route where I want them to.

As far as your CD burner, the most important things are to keep it away from heat sources, vibration, and dust.

M-1 remover is a pretty good solvent for removing duct tape residue. Just don't use too much of it indoors . . . unless you're into that kind of thing.

Some of us around here will admit to being slightly obsessive compulsive about this, myself included. Once I have everything set the way I know it will stay I shorten all power cords to two feet (esspecially with the power strips in my racks) and do the same (as much as feasable) to all other cables. Back of rack messiness is a real pain and a constant source of concern and possible interference.
 
At Radio Shack you can get these self-stick dealies that mount to a rack case and click open and closed. They come up to about an inch in diameter- that's enough to fit and control a bunck of a/c cords.

I forget where I got them (I'll look) but I found a place that sells the replaceable A/C cords already made from 1-3 feet. Very handy. I keep the originals so if I sell something I can give the old long cord with the gear.
 
I went to a flea-market once and got 500 reusable zip ties for 5$. That was about 6 years ago and I probably still have 350 of them. If you can find them, use them. They rock and help cable management a ton. Also, cut your power cords and attach new ends to them, that will make them custom length, and just the right size.
 
I get my short 1 & 3 foot cables from Cables America also. Great prices, and it really does help clean up the clutter to have the short cables.
