Caakewalk pro 9 vs. Magix Studio Deluxe 7

HI,

My new Aardvark just came with Magix 7, suppose to be CW pro 9.

Do you know anything about the MAgix 7?

I was thinking about calling the dealer I ordered from and threatening to send it back unless they send me the cakewalk pro 9 CD.

But Maybe this Magix is good. Any opinons?

First, some good news - assuming that you don't mean "Magix Music Maker" which is one of those drag samples around instant music things. "Magix Music Studio" actually contains 2 programs.

Audio Studio is a cut down version of Samplitude - a high-end sound editor and multitrack that's been around for a while and Magix are now its developers.

Midi studio is a version of E-magic Logic Audio. Despite what Magix call it, this is an Audio and Midi sequencer. The feature set is not far short of Logic Audio Silver.

I would venture to say that the Midi Studio is actually more useful than Pro Audio would have been as it supports VST plug-ins and ASIO drivers.

The bad news is that E-magic no longer develop Logic for pc since Apple bought them out. So if you take the trouble to learn the Magix program you may not have anything to upgrade to in the future.

Magix Music Studio is, I think, now up to a version called 2003 and its Midi Studio (Logic) supports and includes Soft-synths. I don't think the version you have can, but I could be wrong as the last version I saw was Music Studio 6.

I just found out the Magix Studio Deluxe 7 that came with AArdvark Q10, instead of the advertised cakewalk pro audio 9, does not have midi support. It is supposed to be good audio.
And Magix is coming out with a new program that provides 24 bit sound, now only 16 bit, in 4-6 weeks. I don't know if the new version will have midi or not.

I want midi, because I want to create drum and bass and other instrument backing tracks.

I wanted the CW pro 9 so I could have an easy upgrade to Sonor 2.2 and I was going to add the Gigastudio for their great sounds.

I have looked at the Magix Studio Deluxe 7 and it looks pretty cool. I downloaded the manual and whoa... it's a lot of stuff to learn. If I am going to put a lot of my time into learning something I want it to be the best.

I think I'm going to buy the Sonor 2.2 and the Gigastudio. Or maybe I'll just have another vodka and orange juice and keep searching for answers from nice people like you.

Interesting. It's could just be the Audio Studio part of Music Studio. I found some screen shots - doesn't look like Samplitude. Samplitude always used to ask if you want a new project to run from RAM or Hard Disk. Does the program do that?

As PA9 is obsolete, I suppose they had to stop bundling it, but this seems like an odd choice as it definately has no midi.
I'm always wary of bundled software, it doesn't usually take you very far and I think it's wise to budget for a full package when starting from scratch.
