C-1 Distortion Problem

My SP C-1 has suddenly developed a bit of a problem. I've used it several times, and it has sounded perfect, never any unwanted sounds. But the last 2 times I used it, it would distort on random sounds. Not just on loud sounds (so it isn't clipping or volume-related), and not always on breathy sounds. Sometimes I would get complete takes without any distortion, and other takes would have several distorted sounds. It also doesn't seem to be related to how close I am to the mic (again ruling out breathy sounds).

I use a popper-stopper.

Does anybody have any thoughts? I read the recent post about the defective B1, and thought maybe this is the same deal. But I live in Saskatchewan, CA, in the middle of the praries, where humidity isn't really an issue ever. Plus, I have air conditioning running constantly, which should counteract any moisture that might be in the air.

I store the mic on the stand, but with the windscreen on (I record with it off), and with a plastic bag over that, just to be sure.

Please tell me your diagnosis, and how I can fix it.

Contact Studio Projects...........let them advise you.

If it's not your cord, connectors, or preamp... that sounds like it's an intermitting problem with the circuit inside the mic.... contact Studio Projects (and please post what they tell you here).

What Ausrock and DJL said- no user sericeable parts inside. If my experience holds true, the people at SP will be more than happy to check out the mic and repair it if necessary.-Richie
