I've just recently gotten a set of m-audio bx5 moniters and I was hoping to use one of my other surround sound subs I have around the house until I can save up for the better one. Is this possible? There is no output on the moniters. Do I just need to run another out from my firepod to the sub? Or is there some way utilize the crossover thats built into the BX5s? Thanks!

The crossover in the BX5's is not designed to be used for output to a sub. M-Audio's surround system involves sending the main signal to the sub first, and after going through the sub's crossover, the signal goes out to the BX5's. You could either just run another out from the firepod to the sub, or a better solution might be to use an external crossover.

You could also find an inexpensive powered sub and use that instead of the M-Audio sub. A few years ago I bought a powered sub from Radio Shack for $200 on a 1/2 price sale, and it actually worked great! You can wire any sub like what sile2001 described. Ideally, you'll find a sub that has an adjustable crossover frequency and a volume control.

Yeh, thats exactly what I was thinking about doing. I've got a Phillips powered sub from a surrround system (with an RCA input). I was planning on trying to make a converter cable from a 1/4 output on the FirePod (worst case the headphone out) to the RCA on the sub. Is this a dumb idea, or would it be actually possible to make it work? The BX5s seem to be lacking a bit of bass so I was thinking any sub would be better than no sub. Is this good logic? Thanks for the insight.

Ryan.
