Hi all

I have a buzz problem. I have an American Strat and when I record something through my POD into my PC I have really loud buzzes and unwanted noises with overdrive sounds. When I select the combination of 2 pick-ups, the noise disappears, that's because the two serial connected pickups 'destroy' the picked noise from eachother, a friend told me. He also told me that it would better when I turn of my monitor, and it helps indeed a little bit, but I still get lots of unwanted buzzes. How can I get rid of them?

thx

Brett

Single coil pickups are very bad for picking up interference. You cant have them close to or facing a monitor. You may have some ground loop issues also.

Start turning things off until you can get a clean sound. If you have to have your monitor off, well, thats what you have to do.

Or get a guitar with humbuckers.

I know it is picking up a lot.

My PC is in a small room where a lot of other equipment is stored, so I am afraid the buzzrs will continue. I can't turn my PC off when I want to record my guitar on it :D . Still, it's really anoying.

I think the computer itself creates a lot of noise that the strat will pick up. Move away from the computer and power supplies & experiment with position: you will find that as you move around and rotate yourself, the noise pickup will change drastically

The ol' Les Paul picks up a knarly buzz from my powered monitors unless I point the pickups directly at it. It might also be something else, but that angle seems to work. If I move to far off of that angle back comes the buzz. And that's with humbuckers.

Try angling your guitar in different directions to see if you can find a sweet spot that doesn't pick up any buzz.

What you're hearing is 60 mhz hum, and all single coils will pick it up. When you select the "2" or "4" position, the hum is cancelled because the middle pickup coil is wound in reverse, with reverse polarity from the outside pickup it is paired with - and that is exactly what a humbucking pickup is.
For the time being, when you're ready to record just turn your monitor off and use you shortcut key to start recording. Once done, turn it back on.
