I just got the 414 mkII recently, my first 4-track. There is a constant buzz in the backgroud every time I try to record, even with NR on.
Can anyone tell how to get rid of it?

Are you using a mic?

I use a mic. Since my 414 has no xlr input I have to use a $15 adapter. I found that if the adapter is even CLOSE to a wall-wart, power supply, ac adapter thing, buzz hits full-force. Try moving different pieces of gear around and away from the walls and see if you still hear the buzz.

Yo Curt:

A while back I had a well-touted Tascam dual deck cassette box; I had planned to use it to mix down from my recorder; but, brand new, out of the box, the Tascam recorder popped, crackled, and snapped every time I pushed the on or off or record buttons. It was badly wired I think and I replaced it with a Sony ES brand dual deck. Mucho mejor.

I guess I could have sent back the Tascam but I didn't. It sits in my basement storeroom and will be there until I pawn it off on a newphew. All boxes make a little noise; however, my Tascam deck was ridiculous. Perhaps the Tascam workers got short-changed so they decided to short-out or not ground a bunch of stuff.
