I've hooked my Aiwa cassette and Cd player line-out into my Yamaha AC-XG sound card line in. Ok, I used Radio Shack cables - but cables man! shouldn't make that much of a difference right?

Anyway, I got buzz. buzz n hum. Its always there. I wanted to use the aiwa as a pre-amp & record some vocals for a demo ...

I also wanted to transfer some tapes to my hard drive.

I'm guessing there's no way to eliminate this buzz, right?

ps: Yeah, I know I got ghetto equipment - - but after a year n a half of unemployment .... well, at least I got all this time to work on my music

are your outlets properly grounded? that could cause the buzz that you speak of....

hmm the outlet *looks* like it should be grounded - 3 holes

but the landlady does all the work here . Wouldn't surprise me if she wired the place herself - & saves money - "Why 3 wires - 2 will do!"

Any way I can be sure if the outlets is grounded of not? And if it isnt - can I ground my system in antoher way?

thanks much

LN

If its 3 prong it problably is. You can buy outlet testers at a hardware store.
If the outlet itself (grounded or not) Is on the same circuit as lighting or a Major appliance you may still have problems. You may want to buy an Ebtech hum eliminator or something similar to cancel the loop. I had hum on my SB soundcard (with a dedicated circuit) and put an Ebtech on it and it solved the problem.
If at all possible you are better off with dedicated circuits doing Audio.
can I ground my system another way
Not really. The power source has to be grounded.

Kewl!

I ran out & got a Hum Eliminator,

took me a few tries but I think I'm getting the hang of this.

Now I'll be *humming a different tune*

(sorry - couldn't resist)
