Well, out of of 262 responses, he's only had 3 negetive comments.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy something from him.

Before spending that kind of money on ebay, I'd contact the seller and get a feel for how the deal might go, and I'd contact the 3 people who filed the complaints. As you can see by the complaints below, the seller seems to have a problem responding to email.

buildaship(5) Jul-30-02 10:28:38 PST 884094280 S Complaint : misleading listing lead to cancelled sale. then a delay in refunding my credit. Response by ebay@studiocare.com - SELLERS BEWARE! He used buy it now then didnt want the item as clearly listed.

DJL is right. The negative comments are important, but how the seller responds to those negatives is even more important.

With keeping what Harvey said in mind, the buyer said they sent email and the seller said they didn't get email. Find out who's telling the truth, ask the buyer below to send you proof of the email that they sent the seller. Then you'll know who's telling the truth.

I got a U87 from ebay for $1330 shipped. It was scary sending that much money away to a person I didn't know, but I was able to keep in constant contact and we e-mailed back and forth 4 - 5 times. He turned out to be a pretty cool and was a drummer like me.

He also packaged the item very carefully and sent a few batteries with it so that I could learn which kind I needed. The older Neumann U87i's can use batteries for phantom, but they take special order ones.

Also keep in mind that he is in the UK. Overseas shipping can be expensive.

Also, if you don't mind getting an older U87 you could probably save about $100 or more.

this guy (studiocare.com) can be ABSOLUTLY trusted!

It's a store in England and I've recently ordered a Neumann mic from them, too. They responded to each of my emails within hours and have a GREAT service. Just 2 DAYS after I ordered the Neumann I had it already on my desk, and it was in the factory sealed box and in perfect condition. Their prices are also increadibly low, probably due to the fact that Neumann mics are totally over-priced in the US anyway.

I've read comments that the current U87ai is inferior to the old one.
Harvey, if you see this do you have an opinion or are we in "Fletcher"
territory?

Email the seller a few times, if that goes well, ask for their phone number and call them, this will give you a better feeling about dealing with them, or not. Believe me, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Stephen Paul has reported in his forum that the new U87s are made very differently than the older versions and that they are not as good as the older ones, in his opinion.

It was good for me

I got my 184's from them about a year ago. Everything went very smooth and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.
