I need to buy a batch of mic cables, some 10" instrument cables and some 1/4" patchbay cables/snake. Anyone recommend a particular vendor or sale? I usually use MusiciansFriend but wa nted to check in here if you have articular recommendations. Doesn't need to be super high quality. Thanks!

MF is not bad; I've had good results with their cloth covered mic cables. ProCo is excellent but can be a bit pricey. I'd not waste any money on boutique crap though; its a bit like BOSE: "Better Music Through Marketing".

Speakerrepair is an ebay vendor who has sent me consistently solid quality cables with neutrik connectors from time to time. But the best way to do high value cables is to solder them up yourself with bulk cable.

+1 on the ProCo cables. I have mostly outfitted our studio with them and have no complaints.

Hosa are umbiquitious, and although they don't make a big deal about it, they have a good warranty- lifetime, I think. Very reasonably priced, too.

Tell ya, it took me awhile to realize it, but I have more money wrapped up in cables than any other gear.

Yeah, I know. $15 here, $20 there, pretty soon it all adds up to real money.

Make them !!

I do. All mic and patch and sub snakes I make them all.

Plus its great you can make up custom cables as needed XLR to 1/4 inch etc or form 1 , 2, 3, 10, 15, long or longer as needed.

I use VTG audio cable and Neutrik ends to make them.

Get a good cable tester as well such as the ACT3 by apex or similar and a good soldering iron as well. Should them anyway to test cables and repair them from time to time.

I have found these guys to be very reasonable, they built me a 20ft 8 channel mogami gold snake with neutrik gold xlr ends for $151.00 and mogami neglex Gold quad mic cables for $23.33 the cables were 12ft, their prices on bulk cable and connectors are great also. http://www.performanceaudio.com
Nick.

I would also reccomend performance audio if you want Mogami stuff. I happen to work for them as an engineer and its one of the things I love about their systems. Virtually every cable they use is Mogami. Speaker cables, mic cables, some power, patch snakes etc.... Great cables. Durable, flexible, not to bulky or heavy etc.... Its an expensive way to set up live rigs, but sure is nice as an end user :)
