recording not live sound

i need an 8 bus and i was rocommneded this bored cause it had clean pres

Man for an 8 bus mixer, Id have to go old school. The tascam 500 series mixers are really nice. There are 12 and 20 channel versions. Awsome pres, flexability, ect. They were top notch several thousand dollar mixers in the late 80s, but sound way better than any of the modern budget mixers, I've been through them all.

You will be looking for a M-512 or M-520...check ebay and craigslist in your area.

the soundtracs is outta the 80's i think too ... its been discontinued since then .. i think

any board that old, tascam or soundtracs (i've only heard good things about both) needs to be checked out before you drop a g, if possible. old boards can get some strange crackly noises (bad), and all of the functions might not work properly (annoying, but not as bad as noise). i don't know the cause, it could be caps...are you handy enough to do a recap job??

lol im pretty handy ..... but someone would have to tell me what that even means lol

Last time I bought a used board at a music store I had the salesman set me up with a constant signal and I went through and routed it through every bus, send, insert, etc. Checked almost every pot and fader before I commited. I didn't do this on the last board I rented and got totally hosed during a live & recording (ADAT) gig, I had to transplant on the fly! Check that baby out before you buy! I don't know anything about that Soundtracs but I remember oogling it when it first came out, looks nice though.

The Topaz looks to be a nice board. If you want to save a few bucks I have a Studiomaster P7 channel 8 bus in line console if your interested. Just PM me and I can give you the details.

well i cant really test it becuase he lives to far away but he says everything works perfectley ... he's used it recentley

if its e bay check the feedback. if not ask whether you can meet between where you live. so if he lives left and you live right. meet in the middle :D and check everything is working. If you cant meet him then think of someway wher you can pay after you know its allw working. might not be worth taking the risk..

yeah i saw that .. im pretty sure that guy is fake

he has 2 posts
i pmed him a week ago and no answer
and his other post is about something else hes selling and no one responded to it

the pics you posted look like an older Topaz with the different metering for the 8 buss and master outs, the lettering above the group faders is also different from mine. I think they stopped making them in 2000, definately NOT the 80's

For $1000 you can buy a few really decent boards.. Go get a brand new Allen&Heath 12 channel for under $1000. Very clean board and highly adaptable.

Just my two cents.. I have the 16:2 and it is super clean, very good eq's.

I don't know who has told you what, but neither Soundtracs nor Allen Heath has been known for a "clean" sound. I am not saying not to buy it, just want you to be aware incase "clean" was what you are after. In fact, very few older consoles fit this description.
