sooo..after a couple days of thinking about it....heres what i came up with:

right now i am just recording myself (hip-hop vocals)...however within the next 2 months i will be producting 2 more artists...

i also want to open a full studio within the next 2 years..

sooooo...wouldnt it make sense for me to buy a booth instead of treating a part of my room? the booth would allow me to monitor through my monitors while the person recorded in the booth..and since they all come with accustic foam..it would generally do the same thing treating a part of my room would do as well (correct?)

i also heard that instead of buying a prebuilt booth..it is better to hire a carpenter who could do this for half the price...is that a good idea? and where can i find information on local carpenters? (LA area)

what do u guys think about this...do u think i should go with a booth or just treat a part of my room, and monitor through headphones?

thanks for your suggestions!

If you've got the funds then do both. thats essentially what big time pro studios do anyways. one treated booth inside of a treated room.

k.....why?

You gonna mix in that booth? If not (which wouldn't be a good idea either), I would treat your mixing room as well.

why would i put a booth in a treated room? how would the room benifit me? wouldnt the acustic foam inside the booth do what i need in terms of accustics? and reverb...how would the room help me?

ok so...do u treat the mixing room just to make the sound truer from your monitors? if so..im going to do that after i get a good space for recording...

Two didfferent treatments for two different applications. Not a neccessity per se - I have no vocal booth - but I have a 1000sq/ft 12 foot vaulted cieling room that I put gobos arount the singer when recording vocals.
