The Pie Guy
I have my eye on a Fender "Mexican" Precision......

It goes for $279.00 at a local shop...
soft bag and stand included....

It plays super nice to boot.

Is this too much?
This will be my first bass so,
I really don't know if it is a good deal or not...

Any opinions?

Joe

If its new, the Pender Standards go for $350 without the bag, so i am assuming its used?....

Hi Gidge

Brand New....
They claim to be on sale but, you know how that goes...
Usually they mark it up just to mark it down....

So, should I jump at this?
I mean what's the difference between a Standard and a Precision?

Also, being made in Mexico....does this matter at all?
Is the neck gonna warp on me after a year?

If its brand new, and its a Fender Standard P-Bass (made in Mexico) and NOT a Fender Squier P-Bass, that is a great deal...jump on it.......

i think the serial numbers tell you where it was made and the year also...if Hard2Hear sees this post, hes the Fender expert and can help ya there......

Thanks Gidge

It's not a Squire...

I'm outta here.....I gotta Bass to pick up:)

That sounds like a prety good deal for a Fender p-bass. From what i hear the quality of the mexican fenders is really good. Over on the Fender forum, a lot of the guys rave about the mexican Telecasters so I would think that the basses are made just as good. I would grab it!

Mexican Fenders

I got a Mex Jazz Bass for my birthday last year ( my wife loves me!) and from what I can tell, the pickups are a slightly lower quality (very hummy) and the necks are a bit cheaper, different inlays. I would also venture a guess that the bodies in the Mex basses could be a different wood. Alhtough I often hear the rumor that the Mex guitars are the same as the American standard line, they are just cheaper cuz they are assembled in Mexico.

In any case I love my bass< I've had it for a year now and had no problems whatsoever. The only thing I might ever do is upgrade to active pickups if I decide to use if for recording.....

to the best of my knowledge, the Mexican Standards have a lesser quality tuners,bridge,etc...more or less everythjing else is the same......
