I'm planning on building a new PC out of scratch for recording and for other things such as internet and mp3s. The soundcard I am planning to install would be the Delta 66, do I need to install another soundcard for listening to mp3s or can I use the Delta? If so, how do I configure my computer to switch off between soundcards for the different tasks? Also, would it be more convenient to install multiple OS's to keep my recording stuff seperate from the internet and mp3s? Thanks for the help in advance.

the Delta 66 will play mp3's.....

you dont have to install different OS to separate recording/other stuff....some people do, but its not necessary.....although it is a great idea to have a separate, fast hard drive for your audio files only.....

I would stick with the delta alone. You can output system sounds, mp3's, your recordings and whatever thru the delta, unless you want the built in soundfonts that come with stock cards for midi apps. The delta will not have any.
I have a dual boot system. One for recording only and the other for day to day use. My recording OS is stripped down with nothing but recording software and editors. Also disabled ethernet cards, system sounds and all unneccesary apps.
I also use a second HD for my recordings only, {that is my recorded audio files only}.

Would I just use my monitors to listen to mp3s, or use some regular computer speakers? If I need to use computer speakers, is there an easy way to switch between the two so I don't have to unplug the monitors and plug in the computer speakers every time?

I would DEFINITELY listen to your mp3s and daily music through your monitors... Listening to regular music through your monitors will make you familiar with your monitors. ^_^

I second that. It's one of the most important things you can do to make your mixing life easier.
