Problems problems problems (sex pistols)

Recap: I've had this headfuck problem for over a month now. It was an all-of-a-sudden thing, the band was multitracking in cooledit pro on my in-motherboard sound card when the clicking started. It was a digital distortion, like a clipping or something. I tried to figure it out, couldn't , figured it was time for a new sound card. Bought one, bought 2 bought 3, settled with the audiophile. But I'm still getting the clipping. I've ruled out the sound card. It's something either in cool edit or my system. I ran a defrag on my hard drive last night which I haven't done in maybe 4 or 5 months but I haven't had a chance to check out if it worked.

The weird thing is that I didn't change any of my settings in cool pro when the problem originally arose.

Any ideas?

Forget it. I figured it out. It took me so long to fix the problem that I'm almost ashamed to admit how it was solved.

Illuminate us. What was it? This is the sort of thing that's useful to know. It wasn't Cool. It's never Cool.

It apparently was related to cool. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Maybe some of the files got corrupted, I don't know. But it worked!:D

The nicest thing about un- and re-installing Cool is how quick it is. :)

A few months ago I was getting a clicking thing sometimes on some takes. Turned out to be the small fridge i've got in the studio. When it kicks in and kicks out it shudders the power in the room. So now I just turn it of when recording.
