Burning CDs with Reaper

Hi Everyone,

I've been using Reaper to do a rough mastering job on an album I've recorded over the past few months, and would like to burn the final results onto some CDs. I'm dealing with WAV files, which I've loaded onto the project timeline and separated with numbered markers (e.g. '#3') to indicate the gaps between tracks.

However, having rendered the entire project as specified in the Reaper User Guide and seen the CD Audio Image displayed before me as I do so, when I click 'Burn CD' at the next pop-up, nothing happens - no error message or incompatibility issue; it's completely unresponsive. For the method 'Native CD Burning' is selected and for the drive 'HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N', and for both of these fields there are no other options available. I'm using Maxell CD-R XL-II 80 CDs.

Do I need an external CD burner to complete the job? I've looked elsewhere on the forum and read that Reaper is capable of covering the whole process so I'm a little confused! I'm using v.3.76 in case this makes any difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The fact that you don't get the "cdrecord/cdrtools" method as an option tells me that something is missing in your system for burning CD-Rs, as the manual indicates that should be available.
I've never used Reaper to burn CDs, as I find it easier to render the songs individually first, then boost up the volumes with Roxio Audio Editor, then burn to CD with it.
Do you have another audio software that you can use to try out the burner to make sure it does work for burning CD-Rs?

Thanks for your reply, Mike. I ended up installing Reaper on a friend's PC and transferring the existing WAV files over - the burning process worked fine there so I guess it's just a problem with the native burner on my Mac. The problem with rendering the songs individually comes when dealing with crossfades (my songs tend to seep into each other over the course of an album) so rendering the entire project with Reaper seemed like the best alternative. Having said that, I hadn't anticipated the 2 second lag between tracks that Reaper imposes (Is there any solution to this issue?).. Perhaps an external burner would be a good addition for the future!

As I have never burned to disc with Reaper, can't help much more. I know that some audio burning software adds the 2 second gap between songs as a default, but it should be selectable.
I had the same issue with 2 of my songs on my first CD that run together, ended up sending it as 1 song to the mastering guy, and he put the song marker in the Red Book copy.
For burning discs at home, I find the Roxio Creator easy to use, can select gaps or no gaps manually between all songs and in the audio editor you can add track markers. Not a great software package - i stayed with Creator 2010, and it works on Windows 7, even there are no updated drivers for it - because I didn't want to pay for features I didn't need (originally had Creator 7, and they took away a lot of the audio tools and added video tools in C-2010).
