Burn to CDR or CD Recorder?

Man am I green - so here's the question:

Why burn to CD-R (I'm using a Korg D16) when you can use the SPDIF output from the Korg into an equivalent input in a standalone CD Recorder like the TASCAM CDR400?

Burning a CD-R from an internal CD-Writer (such as in the D16) or sending a digital signal to an external/stand-alone CD recorder and having it burn a CD-R are exactly the same process - just different units involved...
