Hi, I got the new Feedback catalog (you could see Feedback as a 3-store chain Dutch version of Guitar Centre; underskilled staff, low prices that eliminate some mom&pop stores, filled with little fuckers trying to outcool eachother on triple Rectumfriers...)
and it has 3 MXL mics in it:

the V67G (love its looks) for €109 (around $129)
the V69 for €289 ($342)
and the 990 for €79 ($93)

now I already own a SP B3 and a C1, and in the future I'm planning on adding a Røde NTK, so would I benefit much from getting one of these MXL mics, or do they cover bases that I've already covered?

yo brutha,

depends what your miking needs are....

the v67 is a nice LDC (i have the v67G) but to my untrained ear, sounds like the C1....i dont think its different enough to shell out monies for.....

i dont think id get a NTK AND a v69.....Id find someway to test drive both and pick one that suits you better.....but it is a nice sounding mic......

the 990 seems to have the same guts as the famous mxl603.....a pair of these would be awesome for drum overheads, acoutic guitars, and other acoustic instruments....a lot of people have said its good for rock vocals also......if any of these applications fit your needs, id highly recommend a pair....or 2 pairs and send one to me:D

Thanx Gidge... but I'm kinda in love with the V67G's looks.. :D

Kinda like a poor man's AKG C12...

Speeddemon, the V67 is more colored and a little darker than the C1. If you have a B3, I'd pass on the 990. If they have the V69ME tube mic, that's a very cool warm, vintage-sounding mic, and you could get that instead of the V67 and the NTK.

I think I'm gonna get a pair, for no reason in particular, but I can't believe they are the same mic (different case) than the 603. I mean...can they squeeze a 20mm capsule in those 603's? I wonder how "cool" they look. I know you might(?) like the greenie V67, but I thought that they looked "cheap and inexpensive"...the gold being all fake looking and all...like the stuff on model airplane kits.

who cares how they sound...I want "cool" looking!!;)

With the mics you have I'd get the V69 and forget about the NTK unless you can get it for a similar price, which I doubt. From most reports the V67 is too similar to the C1 to justify getting it. I don't know anything about the 990, but the V69 is getting good reviews--and it's a tuber. And $340 US is a decent price in Europe.

Thanks guys. The V69 (they say it's called the "Edit" version  ) does come complete with case, shockmount, psu, 7pin cable and mic cable)... quite a package for $342 if you ask me. FWIW, the Røde NTK sells for €555 in Europe (so that's more around $650)...

Damn your US$ is cheap now!!!!

Dot, do you also mean by this that the V67 could give a thinner source a bit more body and/or weight?

I can imagine that it would sound nice on a birch snare drum, or maybe as overhead...

Yo speed,

Volgens my is "Edit version", een fout en moet dit inderdaag de m edition zijn (te wining ruimte ?). ik ga 'm een ieder geval ff bekijken in Feedback.
