Schweeet!!!

Very nice woodwork!!!

How much to make one for the rest of us? Maybe brand with the HomeRec logo or something?

thanks rez .. my old pops helped me out too, so it wasnt all me :D

lol uhhh

$25,000 <-------- just for materials!

we'll discuss labor later ;)

Hey! my friends and I made a mic box JUST like that a few years ago! That's insane! Our drummer's dad was a wood shop teacher, so we used the shop at the school he taught at. But we found out real quick that lugging around a heavy wooden box to shows doesn't word real well. It's just too heavy. So we stopped using it shortly after that. But in a studio that would actually work quite well.

yeah its a beautiful thing to have no more mic bags and mis-shaped boxes .. its all in one foam padded box .. i left a lot of room for more mics...

it was really to heavy? what kind of wood did you use

maybe putting a handle on it would help? i was thinking about it but then i realized it wont be moving very much so there's no need

We had a handle, but it probably could have used a handle on each side of the box instead of one on the top. Plus the hinges you used are way better than the ones we used because ours broke. But you know what, I still have that thing sitting in the garage. I might bring that down here, dust it off, and use it! Why not? It looks nice, plus our old singer airbrushed the foam inside and it looks awesome.

Handles on the sides would be sweet....make it easy to lift, and still keep it stackable, for the next goodie box.... :D

oh yeah thats a good idea .. nie airbrushed !

lol i spray-painted my black lol they were like grey with green stains... :D

That looks really nice.

Wish I had the woodworking tools/knowledge to make stuff like that. :(

thanks guys

yeah maybe i should take a shot of my basement - all my dads machinery

Hey, tell me about the guts. how did you cut, layout the foam. Where did you get it, etc. I'm a bit of a hack woodworker, and this looks fun. I'm just not sure about the inside stuff. Very cool, indeed.

I'd love to see that! I love power tools, especially wood working tools.

hey thanks again everyone!

for the inside there is 2in thick foam

the box's inside was something like 11 3/4"

what we did was measured all the diameters of my mics and drew them up on autoCAD and made a 11 3/4" square and lined the mics up in a nice order.

then we printed that out and taped it onto our foam which was also cut at 11 3/4" (we used the bandsaw)

Its really 4 different layers of foam in the whole box, the bottom two are just there to fill space, the 2nd one from the top has a few cuts in it for the mics thats needed to go in deeper so that the top wouldnt rest on them. and then the top layer has all the cut outs

SONIC: im gonna take some pictures they will be up on here soon ;)

Cool. autocad is sweet. My wife is an architect, and ,consequently, an autocad wiz, so she could do that for me in a few minutes. What kinda foam was it, and where'd ya get it? Sorry to keep badgering you, but I'm seriously thinking about ripping off/modifying and using your idea.

Oh and how'd ya cut the holes? Scrollsaw?

no thats fine ill answer any question you have..

the foam was actually just packing foam that was laying around at my dads work .. its a pretty thick and sturdy foam, maybe ust check out some packing foam?

for the larger diameters i cut them with the bandsaw but for the smaller holes like the ones for the 57's we used a ... well i dont know what its called but its a really simple designed hand tool .. its s 1in diameter pipe with little handles on it and the one end is sharpened so that it will cut. you just press down and turn and it cuts a nice hole ... not sure if that helped but thats as good as i can describe it lol maybe check your hardware store, although the small holes could probbaly be done with the bandsaw too so you might not even need this little tool.
