Building trigger pads, which sound module would you recommend?

I'm converting my practice drumkit into a bunch of trigger pads but need a decent sound module. I'd like to avoid midi if atall possible, so i'd be going for a module with at least 6 jack inputs and preferably the ability to load my own samples. What say you?

An Alesis D4 or DM5 midi'ed to any sampler would probably work pretty well for cheap. I'm not aware of any samplers with multiple trigger inputs but I haven't really looked.

I agree a low cost module like an Alesis D4 or DM5 (to accept the 1/4" triggers MIDI'd to a sampler would likely be the best approach.

A more expensive module like a Roland TD10 would give more control over sounds, but you can't load samples into the TD10.

I've never used a Ddrum module, but I thought you could burn and trigger samples with one - perhaps some Ddrum people can confirm or deny.

yes an Alesis D4 has 12 trigger inputs. I used to use mine with the output jacks of a tr707 and it was fun. My 707 broke though so I too would like to make some triggers to bang on with my drumsticks.
