Building the Studio
Hello everyone I am new to the site.
I have been a House Music DJ for seven years and I am going to begin my producing career.
I am putting together my own system. The specs are as follows.
Pentium 4 1.7GHZ processor.
256 RDRAM
Dual display video card
Sound Card ???????????

This is where I am stuck.
Acouple of people recommended the Aardvark 20/20 or the Aark 24, and also the delta 10/10
What I want to know is do I need to spend all this money right now or can I start with somthing a little smaller since I am just starting to learn.
I think I will being using the Reason software that was recommended for loop based music such as house, trance, etc.
Please any advice you can give will be appreciated.
Thanks again,

You can get by with almost any sound card to start out, but you'll find yourself quickly wishing that you had a card like the ones you've listed.

I got into the home recording thing a couple of years ago (Cakewalk Pro Audio 8), and I made do with the $20 sound card that came with my machine and a $20 Wal-Mart mic. I was able to get "rough drafts" of songs onto CDs that way, and it worked for what I wanted to do at the time.

The more I got into it, though, the more I wanted to make my demos sound better. I did some research (this site is an excellent resource), and learned that, to really do it right, I needed to spend some bones. And frankly, I've been saving for a year. I'm just about to order my new DAW - it'll be built around an Aardvark Q10 card and Cakewalk's Sonar XL software...

Hope this is helpful. One more piece of advice: Go ahead and pick up another 256 megs of RAM. RAM is cheap, and it's awful inconvenient when you run out.

Building a home recording studio.....HELP!!!!

HELP!!!!
I am trying to build a home recording studio so I can record my singing and hopefully someday become a country singer. I have a computer, just need some advice and some suggestions on what kind of equipment I'm going to need and how to hook it up.
Any suggestions, comments or any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have anything yet except the computer, so send your input! Thanks so much!
