ok this isn't gonna be stationary at all... unless I have like four guys... but anyways I'm trying to build a vocal booth NOT a GoBo ... those dont do much for me at least... It has to be just big enough for a mic stand and a person... I dont care if they are clausterphobic or watever... thats their problem they can take some perkasette to get over it haha but yah Should I build a basic box out of plywood then stain it on the outside (better appearence) then stain the inside and treat it with auralex? Anybody got some suggestions?

Have your parents buy a coffin and just attach the mic to the lid.

If its not going to be stationary...

Make four sides out of one layer of plywood. Hinge all four corners so you can lay it flat.

Then stable rubber gaskets (like car window gaskets, available for JCwhitney.com) to the outside edge of the plywood along the sides, and bottom of the hinged plywood.

Then, using short deck screws, screw on another layer of plywood on the outside, covering the edges of the stapled on rubber gaskets.

Then cut out a door hole, and hinged that, and do the gasket thing again.

Cover with foam or whatever floats your boat.

Viola, vocal booth that can pack flat.

Use good hinges!

Skip the Auralex and use 2 " O/C 703 or Knauf Rigid Soundboard. Cover with muslin or similar cloth.

just went out and go supplies

I just went and got a bunch of supplies for this project... thanx for your input guys... I got a bunch of plywood, some stain (make it look nice), a glass door, hinges, and I went to guitar center and got some supplies to make and XLR panel in the inside, Since i hear 703 is so much better than auralex I'm going to find out where to order that and get that... I'll keep posted pictures of my progress.

Coooooooooooooooool.

Pictures mandatory :D

Don't forget to pick up some fabric to cover that 703 in... mighty itchy especially in a closed booth.

Kevin.
