I have a nice rack setup for home recording use. Over the last few years, my system has seem to settle on:
(I'm not sure of the model numbers - but they should be close)
Compressor: dbx 266 or 166?, dual channel unit. This was preceded by a Alesis nano-comp, and an old single channel dbx box before.
Effects: Lexicon MP100, for reverb/delay/etc. Preceded by:
Alesis Microverb 2?, Alesis Nanoverb, Beringer something-or-other.
Pre-amp: ART TubeMP
Amp modeler: Did have a Sansamp, then a Johnson.
My Trademark 10 isn't rack mounted, so I don't include it on this list.
I have other "outboard" stuff - drum machine, Tech 21 Trademark 10, etc. But I really like the perminancy (is that a word?) of having stuff rack mounted.
EBay is your best friend on this stuff. Otherwise it get rather expensive (as I'm sure you already know
