arright i need some place to record an i dont wanna just record in the corner of my room an have the noise bounce of the walls...i hung some towels an it didnt do much...the temporary booth i want to build i'd like to be 4ft. wide 4 ft. long an 6.5 ft. tall..around there or a little shorter no shorter than 6 ft.

I do have some extra doors in my cellar i could use but i dont know how what i should put on them..and since its temporary..i dont want to buy Auralex an put it on that..would large blankets work...im using the booth to record rap vocals...until my room is finished an i can make the final one

arright if anyone has any ideas that wouldnt cost me much or nothing at all...please drop them here

I just read an article (or maybe it was a podcast) recently about how to deal with the sound problem in a corner of the room -- let me see if I can track it down for you.

Okay. It was an InsideHomeRecording podcast, in two parts (two episodes). They discuss room acoustics and other details for vocal recording in particular. You can get to the podcast feeds from here: http://www.insidehomerecording.com/

Part 1 is in Eposide #21 at about 9 minutes. Part 2 is in eposide #23 at about 12 minutes.

Hope this helps...

arright thanks...definetly gonna look at that...anyone got any other ideas?

If you're recording vocals, try putting the mic in a closet full of clothes. The fabric absorbs a lot of the reverb and ambient noise.

I've also had simple success by hanging a couple of opened sleeping bags on the back of doors opened in a V shape, with the singer facing into the V. Absorbs a lot of the high-frequency bounces, though you'll want to watch your bass.

While not perfect, this may get you OK results for no money. Don't forget to make noise sources in the room quieter when possible-- like turning off the AC or furnace, draping a sleeping bag in front of the computer (if it has a noise fan), etc.

aight then..any other ideas?

this is just gonna be temporary will be building the official one once the carpet is put down in 2 1/2 weeks

That's a great podcast, I'm downloading all the less recent episodes now. That and Home Recording Odyssey.

For a quick temporary fix, hang heavy quilts rather than blankets, they work better. Hang them so that you have a little (1-2 inches) space between them and the wall. Stack pillows in the corners for temp bass traps. You mentioned having some doors that you are considering using, if they are hollow interior doors don't use them. These kind of doors will resonate and make your "booth" very boomy sounding, they also tend to rattle and offer almost no sound dampening.
