Hey,
I am currently trying to find the best way to build myself a studio and the music is all made by computer so for now I'm just trying to get the best equipement and that is not suppper expensive my budget is 1000$ and the only thing I have to work with right now is my computer which is a P4.

P4 2.9 GHz 800MHz FSB w/512KB Cache
- 1 GB memory
- 200GB disc

Second, fast but does not have to be big hard drive

Keyboard controller, I like novation but the maudio ones will do the job

Sound card - Nothing fance needed here. Delta 44, EMU 0404 would be good choices (emu has DSP but has a steep learning curve)

Monitors - Search this site for all sorts of stuff, I recommend something with 8" drivers

Software of your choice (Reason)

And thats it.

Sound card: $100-200
Controller: $100-400
Monitors: $300-1000
Good hardrive: $200

What kind of music? It looks like u want a midi studio, is that correct? If so, depending on the type of music, there are numerous software packages. Reason 3 is a good application for sequencing, and has some awesome synths. It also offers sample libraries (refills) with strings, pianos, organs, and numerous other instruments. Arturia offers the Minimoog and Moog Modular Synths that do some really neat stuff. Though none of these are perfect replicas of the sounds the real instruments can make, they are very close, and for a thousand bucks, you can produce music that would have cost a hudred times as much to produce a dozen years ago!

If you don't intend to record live music (singing, guitar, etc) but keep it in the digital world, your sound card can be fairly inexpensive. The Delta 1010LT may be the best inexpensive card with decent D/A converters. With professional quality software (Cubase SX, Sonar 5 Producer, etc, surround sound is possible, but to put it in surround format on DVD will involve decoding software that is expensive. Don't knowyour intentions, but maybe these suggestions will be helpful.

I will record rap music

Well I don't know exactly what kind of studio I need because I'm just starting out with the studio stuff but the music is made by computer but my voice will be recorded soo I want to have a good recording equipment. The type of music I will be recording on is rap/hip-hop music!

Thx
Rick
