I was thinking about doing that actually, i have the Zalman all copper fan (weighs roughyl 2.2 lbs!) ... but you although they were able to get it that high, a lot of people wont be...

but still.. 2.2Ghz OC'd to 3Gh'z is enough for any DAW... with a 33%OC rate.. thats fantastic..

Right now i Have a P4 2.40A OC'd to 2.7Ghz.... runs smoothly..

It's dirt cheap because they're trying to get rid of 'em. Pentium D is old tech. Wait a few weeks and get a Core 2 Duo. Should leave the D in the dust.

Not quite. It's already dual core. It's 64 bit capable. It's got the new B0 version of the internal circuit. Best of all, although in stock form it only runs at 2.66GHz/533fsb, due to the high multiplier you can wind that up to 4Ghz/200fsb or even higher. And for a fraction of the price you'd pay for a cpu that fast.

The reason they want to get rid of them I'd say is because it's on the old 90nm while the new ones are on 65nm

That seems Pretty awesome getting 4.0ghz and having 2 Cores....

From reading the Article he says with this CPU clocked at 4.1ghz it Beats the New Athlon FX CPU"s in benchmarks and at that Price I would say it is an awesome deal.....

Go for it..... :D

Yeah, and I'll bet you'll be able to buy them for less than $120, too.

No, it's because of the Core Duo. 65 nm Pentium D chips have been out since January. Those price drops were months ago. The price drops now are because the 65 nm Pentium D chips were a stopgap measure to tide Intel over until the Core 2 Duo.

Even though the raw clock speeds are slower, for 32-bit apps, IIRC, the current Core Duo outperforms the current (65nm) Pentium D by a small margin. The Core 2 Duo will be even faster and will be 64-bit chips, eliminating the only advantage that the Pentium D had.

Early benchmarks show Core 2 Duo blowing away the Pentium Extreme Edition, which, in turn, outperforms the Pentium D.

Core 2 Duo should basically leave Pentium D miles in the dust---particularly Kentsfield. :D

Sure, no argument on the 65nm technology.

My point is, if you're building a daw on a budget right now, you can pick up a scuzzy old 805 for $120 that will clock the pants off any AMD, or EE chip costing 5 times as much
