I just recently purchased some unfinished rack cases from a local guy. These were built very sturdy, they are put together and have the rack rails in and everything, almost completed. I just have to add the covering and hardware.

I am just trying to figure out something cool for the covering. I have a 16 space one that I am going to use for the home studio and put some wheels on it. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking it would be pretty cool to cover it in some kind of shag carpeting, but that may be too much. If you have pictures of your own creations that would be great.

They are made out of 3/4 composite wood. Not as crappy as particle board but not as pretty as solid wood.

Shag carpeting? Whoah... that's pretty crazy.

Personally, I prefer the natural wood look, so I'd probably go with a nice veneer.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone invented a paint that changed color when exposed to different frequencies or volumes of sound?

Tolex...comes in hundreds of colors, patterns and textures. It's easy to apply and you get to pick a color that matches the decor.

Thanks for the tip, I have been looking at the different tolex they have out there on the internet. Probably end up going that route

+1 on the shag. I have an old guitar cab i've been wanting to do this to for ages now.

I really think it would look cool, but you never know till you actually get it on there. I will give it a shot and post pictures when it is done. If anyone else out there has done anything like this, please throw up your pictures.
