I want to build my own rack, frankly becasue im cheap, so im thinking ill just build a rack that will be able to hold about 16 and have a slanted top for a mixer. i have no problem building it, thats easy. But what i need help is the sizes of every thing depth width height etc..., i know its 19 inches and i plan to get rack rails from somewhere. My question is does anyone have plans for this type of rack mount?

you really shouldnt need plans. Make it as deep as your deepest piece of gear, and as high as the ammount of gear you need to fit in it. Your basically just building a box and adding rails on two sides.

A rack is basically just a box, pretty easy to make. The measurements are:

Inside width: 19 1/8"
Space per rack unit: 1 3/4" high

Be sure to leave a little extra space above and below the rack rails. An 1/8th of an inch is fine both above and below.

Just remember even 16u of rack gear can get *heavy* I would suggest using corner braces as well as glue and wood screws. :D

Good luck!

I built a rack recently. All I did was take an old wardrobe and cut it down a bit. That was cheaper than getting MDF sheets or even precut pieces.
One thing I have noticed is that there is always plenty good quality racks knocking about eBay. I saw a metal 24u rack with castors going for £11 (UK) a while back.
