My CD-RW drive was working perfect burning CD's at 12x, until I re-installed windows cuz of a virus... I re-installed all the drivers and so forth, my problem is that I can no longer burn my CD's at 12x, instead I have to put the speed down to 2x, because it says I have buffer underrun errors. It's a Ricoh 12x10x32 using Easy CD Creator 4.

I also used 3 different brand CD-R's.. imation, memorex, and sony and still got the error, so it must be the software or CD-RW drive.

If anyone knows a solution, please help me out, I'd appreciate it, thanks!

It sounds more like a problem with your system than with the burner. My guess is the virus program I'm sure you installed :) Try disabling it then burning the CD at 12x.

The virus is gone.. even when my pc had the virus I was still burning CD's at 12x, the virus attacked my registry to mess up my system restore feature.
I don't know what else it could be, I tried updating my drivers and even re-installing the software but the same problem occurs.

I'll keep trying... maybe run disk de-frag on my c drive, don't know any other solutions?

Does your burner support DMA? If so, make sure it is checked.

Verify that DMA is checked on the HDDs as well, I've seen it default to unchecked on an OS install, and man is that slooooowww.

I believe what SeanMorse79 was trying to say is don't have your anti-virus software running in the background (Norton, McAffee, etc.)

Another thing to check in your burning software is whether you are burning the image to your hard drive then to CD, or if you're burning on the fly straight to CD.

Also, I thought CD Creator had some sort of burn-proof option to prevent these types of errors.

Well, another I'd like to add is that the CD choices you listed were not very durable CDR's, and some burners really don't support those brands very nicely. They tend to get errors more than Mitsui(I spell that right, lol), Maxell, and Verbatim type CD's. Try one of these brands, and if it still doesnt work then try deleting and reinstalling the program. Easy CD Creator is great, and like Evil D said, they are known for preventing errors in the burning process. Hope this helps, peace!

1. Which version of Windows do you have? If using XP, only EZCD 5.1 is compatible with it. Earlier versions will not work correctly.

2. Regardless which version of windows, download the latest patches for EZCD, it's a pretty buggy program. It also installs some .dlls which can screw up things like your USB ports - I posted the whole fix for this some time ago, it's also on the Rozio and Sandisk web sites.

3. Burn proof has to be in your hardware AND software to workl, and to show up in the EZCD menus - if it is even an option under 4, which is pretty old now.

4. EZCD likes to test out the capabilites of your source and CDR drives. If you recently re-installed, and have not done those tests, it may be artificially slowing down the drives. look under "System tests" in the menus.

I've got a Ricoh burner....it only likes TDK CDs out of four types I tried...so try TDKs...what CDs were you using when it was burning ok at 12X??

good luck
