I'm actually stepping up from the mic200 to a DMP-3, it hasn't arrived yet but I expect it to be quite an improvement? (back me up guys? ;-))
I liked the mic200 first, but I think it's too coloured now I've had it for some time... I can't get a really good vocals sound out of it at the moment.
I can say that
the mic200 IS an improvement over the mixer pres, which I've grown to hate really...
Anyway, good luck with your choice, but please keep in mind what Blue Bear once said:

This really is true, because I've experienced it myself. And one more important thing: listen to what other people say. I sometimes tended to have made up my mind about a product, and even though most people recommended me something else, I didn't even look at them. please do. I think it's a real satisfaction if you've really saved up some money to buy something you KNOW will keep you satisfied for a long time. Set yourself a goal, not too high, so you shouln't aim at a £600 pre, but I think the DMP-3 will be really reachable, and will keep you satisfied for a long time.
Oh, and I've heard reasonably good things about the ART pre, which (if I'm right) is cheaper than the DMP3, but I don't know about how many channels (1 or 2?)
Regards, and good luck!
Stan.
