What are the best monitors I can get for $300 or less? This is as much as I can spend on monitors since I have other things to pay for.

I was looking at the M-Audio SP-5B studiophile's. Seem pretty nice.

I can't test out any monitors anywhere since there's no place like that around here.

My "studio" resides in a medium-sized room; not too big, not too small.

Hope you guys can help out, I know there's been tons of posts about these so sorry about adding to the problem.

The best in that price range, and in that price range I wouldnt even call it subjective anymore, would be a new pair (or used) of old-stock Paradigm version II or III mini-monitors. Version III is easier to find than II, but if you can find a pair of II's they can ususally be had for $240 new in the box.
A brand new pair of current issue mini-monitors is about $340, still an incredible value, more on par with $1000 monitors, and the stereo image will get your rocks off. A good power amp is neccessary. I was demo-ing power amps the other day, and there is a difference, never thought it would be so obvious, but it is.
Ebay is a good place to start on Paradigms, and you can hear a pair at most good hi-fi electronics stores, like Ovation.
THey look really nice too.

That's got to be the worst review I've read. Even if a subjective reviewer likes a product, they don't get all mushy about it.

"But then I plugged these bad boys in, and gentlemen (and ladies) let me tell you, the sky opened up and God himself came down with a magic wand, touched the tips of these monitors and blessed, blessed music came out. "

Give me a break. I've never heard the Behringer Truths and now I really don't want to. Like Blue Bear said Id check out the Yorkville's.

Where can I find the Yorkvilles? What model? Are they powered monitors?

I'm looking to spend $300 on a pair.

Can't comment on where to get Yorkvilles, but it sounds like a good decision because the bear generally has good opinions.

Just wanted to make sure you didn't get Alesis Monitor One's. I have a pair. They aren't terrible, but there are much better ones out there.

Yorkvilles... I just found out that in this country they cost €300 (=$300). A piece! Oh well... I guess what people say is true: Buying cheap is buying twice. But it will have to wait then.

Buy one now and mix in mono until you can afford the other one. :D

Yo Ice de blanco:

You can get Yorkville on line; they will tell you the nearest dealer. I have the passives and they do a good job considering the cost. But, as mentioned in other posts, Yorkville does not fill up two pages of EM so they can sell for less.

I assume that the Yorkville actives are all right but have never heard them. I've only read posts that usually speak in the affirmative, eliminate the negative and don't mess with Mr. in between.

I think Bear has a hidden studio at the Yorkville factory.:p

Green Hornet:D
