Hello! I've been doing beatbox and I want to record, edit my music.I need an external sound card, because I have only a laptop. As I understand it, I need asound card with ASIO.

Are there any options at a price about $70? Yes,I know that question may seem silly, but still ...

P.S. I live in Russia and I drinking vodka with bears every day. Ok, I'm kidding. The prices here are more than in America and please note this. :)

If you are doing beatbox you will need an audio interface with one XLR input with phantom power and a mic preamp.

Do you have USB or Firewire connections on your laptop?

You might want to look into the Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio, which has all of those features. As you can see it is USB-based which most laptops support and it is 59$.

If you skip your vodka-with-bears-session for a couple of days I assume you can afford it :P

However, you will also need a decent microphone with XLR, preferably a dynamic one such as the Shure M57. Don't be fooled by the "instrument microphone" label; I've heard it's great for vocals as well. And in this case your vocals will be sort of an instrument. You should not buy a microphone that's too cheap as beat boxing will easily cause the signal to distort. Also you should get a windcap or at least some sort of pop filter (those are almost free).

(BTW I've been to Russia and well, I loved it!)

Come to think of it, you will not need phantom power for a dynamic microphone.

If you are getting the SM57 and putting a foam windscreen on it, I would rather you get the SM58 instead. Its very much the same microphone but with a mic grille and foam windscreen in it.

You should avoid condensor microphones for beatboxing due to the concept of beatboxing. My beatboxing friend confirms the theory that condensors don't work well for beatboxing.

dainbramage, thanks a lot! This sound card - a good choice for me. So far I can take the microphone from my friend, he doesn't use it, but gives a good sound :) It will take time, maybe I'll buy AKG BBB DFive :D
