Hailz everyone,

Here's a recent mix for you all to critique. Please let me know what you like and don't like about this mix...

DEATH F'CKING METAL

I dont like death metal at all, but i will give an honest opinion on the mix quality from my point of view.
Yeah nice sound. Guitars are a bit muddy. Remind me of Defotnes B-sides distorted guitars. Cant comment on the vox as I dont know this genre much at all.
The kick is hidden. Bring out some more hi mids and boost the volume. Snare is also hidden but not as much as the kick drum.
Are they real drums? Snare sounds very consistent.
Bass guitar needs more presence as it meshes in with the guitar too much. I know guitar and bass are meant to mesh but the mesh is too much.
Good mix there although some tweaks definelty need done.

Na these are the DKFH samples. I agree with you on the mix though needs a bit more tweeking. HAILZ \m/

Cool. I will look forward to hearing a new mix post.

Cool song. My only "complaint" would be the vocals. They lack the punch of the rest of the music. They seem to sit out front, and not blend in properly. Maybe try and eq some of the highs out of them, and make them deeper. Just a small bitch, compared to other death metal I've listened to. Also my not hurt to beef the drums up. They sit well with the guitars, but in this type of music, some really heavy drums would give the tune a more menacing sound. Just a bit more low end would help.

Hi VesuviusJay,

That song reminds me a lot of Morbid Angel in their early days, soundwise and the type of riffing.

The drum is very Fruity Loopesk, you should be carefull with programmed drums with the hi-hat mostly. When at high speed blastbeats the hi-hat produce a linear type of electronic sound like you got there. Maybe hitting the "humanize" function could help fixing that by adding some lower and higher velocity to your drum and make it a bit more natural.

Over all the sound is too muddy to make this a worthy album. You'll need to brighten up your sound a notch, especially in the mid levels. Especially the voice, way too muddy, lighting it up won't hurt your voice.

I don't dislike the song, it's very oldschool tho. I don't know if you plan on doing concert or just doing that for fun, but if you want to make shows and get an audience, nowadays you'll have to be more creative and don't follow the early 90s trend.

If you post again some newer mix, I'll surely check it out and comment about the improvements.

I'm working on something too, I'll surely post this month, so you'll have your shot at me!

Thanks All. I would always rather hear what you don't like so that I may improve. Thanks for the feedback.

...

I dig the music. Cool mix and guitars. The vocals seem a little....like they don't matter much to the song. It seems like a great tune for some yelling type death vocals like The Crown. Then again, I think all death metal should sound like them, so I guess that's a given.

Man, brings me back to my Terrorizer, Nausea and Doom days of slam-pits, Hoover Park and hair everywhere!

The bass drum needs to be loud as fuck to compliment the POWER of the riffs! The vocals need a bit more reverb and bring up the delay at the tail end of the vox. Bring up the backing vocals just a bit below the main vocla track!

The snare could use some EQ'ing to fatten it up a bit; and bring that up in the mix as well. As for bass! Who cares!!! The guitars are covering all the low end anyway!

Jay- Drums are kind of far back for this style of music. Not sure if your hi-passing your guitars but you might try rolling them off around 100hz or higher to help the kicks/bass cut through. Definitely sounds like you could use more midrange on your bass. Try a boost in the 800 to 1000k range. Vocals are kind of out front but that kind of comes with the style.

Thanks Wire, and everyone else. I will work this mix a bit and repost!
