This message is for Bruce (BlueBear) or anyone else who has auditioned or owns either the KRK V8s or V6s.
I was auditioning both the V8 and V6 today at a local music store, and wanted to get opinions on how they may differ. As usual, the music store did not have them optimally placed and I forgot to grab a familiar CD when I left the house. So, my audition was not ideal. From what I could tell at the store, they both had a very similar sound, but there were some differences, although not drastic. The V6 seemed to have about the same top end as the V8 (very detailed with a nice shine without being glaring - Let's say it was a semi-gloss sound). The V8 obviously produced more extended bass, and the V6 seemed to just rolloff naturally (with no midbass hump as is typical with many smaller driver monitors). The midrange and imaging appeared to be a bit more open on the V8, but this could've been placement differences, as the V8s were spaced further apart than the V6s. Overall, they both seem very natural sounding with nothing noticably pronounced or subdued.
Bruce, did you by chance audition the V6s before you bought the V8s? If so, what were your impressions, and what made you choose the V8 over the V6. I'm leaning towards the V6 because I can't justify the price of the V8.
Any help you (or others) can give would be appreciated.
Thanks.
