Can't see "brothers"

That's because it's not there.

I listened to the mp3, decided to change something in the mix, removed it from nowhere, did the change, and tried to upload it to nowhere. Then I got the error message: 'this file already exists'.

Glitch.

that tone on your guitar combined with the tasteful plucks is incredible. Sounds earthy and alive. The theme is very proud. The horns and backing vocals are a bit up front though. I was almost listening for a military catgut snare on a hill rat-a-tat-tat over the
stream thru the woods. great man.

"SAY...MY...NAME"

"HEAR...MY...NAME"

Hey man, sounds great to me. What are you using for the flute/trumpet sounds?

(note: I would be impressed if you responded with "A Flute, and a Trumpet").

Nice work.
Chris

Nice dobro, as usual. This ones kind of haunting, meloncholy. I like it. Your voice sounds great, again. Man it's so easy to post on your songs......"Hey dobro this is great, again" hehe :D

Still ready and willing to do some drums, a test, whatever. And now I have lots of time (unemployment does have benefits ;) ). Just let me know

Oh, this wasn't the Dire Straits one... Ok. Fair enough. It's already perfect so it would be pointless to cover it... What the hell am I rambling?!

Ok, your song has and excellent mix. The guitars are just great, the flutes are good, the vocals are at the right volume level and the performance is good. There's nothing wrong with the mix. Well, since I HAVE to find something to nitpick every time around, I'll just say you could lower the flute volume a tad. Just a tad :D

The songwriting is solid too. Sounds like a nice folky tune.

Hell. I saw your tunes were pretty short so I decided to review every one just for the hell of it:

LOW:
---
The mix is good here too, but there's some weird effect on the vocal. It sounds like you're singing from down below somewhere. The performance is nice but the song lacks something. I dunno. Well, at least it isn't boring since it doesn't get a chance to be. It's so short :D

JOY:
---
Hmmm... I'm detecting a pattern here (no shit sherlock :D ). I guess all your songs are acoustic folk songs. I'm not good at reviewing them since they're not my cup of tea usually. The mix is good and all. The vocal "soloing" sounded pretty funny to me. I'm not sure if that's what you were going after, though. Somehow some parts reminded me of Battle of Evermore by Zeppelin.

WILD:
---
Ok. This isn't entirely acoustic but pretty close. Maybe this song collection is your Led Zeppelin III, huh? The drums sound pretty bad, so I understand you don't use them that much. In my mind this song kinda melds into your other songs, since it's a bit similar. I guess the drum thing makes it stand out from the rest, but you really should get some better samples.

ABANDONED:
---
Your songs are pretty minimalistic, you know. The mix is good, so it's all good. Sounds like a lullaby of some sort. I bet you get chicks with this stuff :D Perfect campfire stuff.

MINERAL:
---
Oh, drums again. The kick drum doesn't bother me as much as the "Wild" drums did. In fact it's kinda cool and makes the song drive forward better. You got those weird vocal "solos" here again. I just can't help but smile when I hear them. Hey, now I'm thinking Syd Barrett for some reason. Maybe it's the weirdo synth sounds that make this song go over the rainbow. :D

So... all in all, nice stuff, but I wouldn't put an album full of it. You'd have to put a death-metal tune somewhere in there just to break the pattern :D Well, not necessarily a death-metal song but you know what I mean.

-EDIT-

Hey, I was just thinking... Do you use a metronome while recording? I'm just asking because if you do, it would be easy to add drums to some of 'em. I'd love to fiddle around with the idea, even if it's just for my own ears or something...

I was half expecting a Dire Straits cover as well (which is an excellent tune) and obviously shares similarities.

But this is a great song. Reminds me of one of your others that you just posted. The flute was a good touch. It helped to widen things up a bit in the mix. This song feels like it was inspired by some of those Dragons Cave debates.

I think this is a tune that other musicians are going to like, but not sure of the general public...but most of the public are not generals...so you ought to be ok there...

I hear clothes shuffling and such in the "intimate" spots of your song...like fade outs and such. But...that's probably ok in this genre of music. I have no advice or tips...other than just to sit back and enjoy your tunes.

Unemployed? What are you doing for money?
State unemployment for the moment. And my wife owns her own grooming shop. We'll get by :D

Ha Ha ... A song with more than one word in the title ...

Real nice guitar playing on this. Ohhh ... I like when you bring in the synth right around :50 or so. Kind of reminds me of something Led Zeppelin might do.

This has a cool quality to it. I dig your stuff! :)

Cranky - excellent feedback, thanks.

"Well, since I HAVE to find something to nitpick every time around, I'll just say you could lower the flute volume a tad. Just a tad"

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I made it that loud because at that volume you can hear that kind of delicious tearing sound of the air being cut by the soundhole edge. But if it's too loud, it's gotta go down...

"LOW:
---
The mix is good here too, but there's some weird effect on the vocal."

Yeah, you're right. I did Low and Joy last year. I just put two mics up in front of me and played and sang at the same time. I think there's some phasing going on or something.

"WILD:
---
The drums sound pretty bad."

Yup, I'm buying some better sounds.

"So... all in all, nice stuff, but I wouldn't put an album full of it. You'd have to put a death-metal tune somewhere in there just to break the pattern Well, not necessarily a death-metal song but you know what I mean."

I know exactly what you mean, but this is going to be a gentle album for them as likes that kind of thing. Thanks very much for the extensive feedback - you know how to listen, and it was useful and interesting for me. :)

"Hey, I was just thinking... Do you use a metronome while recording? I'm just asking because if you do, it would be easy to add drums to some of 'em."

It's a definite and imminent possibility. :D

Sluice - thanks - no it wasn't the Cave that inspired it. I wrote it last autumn.

mixmkr - damn, do you listen to *every* song that crops up here? :D Where do you find the time? LOL Anyway, thanks for the ears. You might be right about the audience. When people like my stuff, that's great, but when people *here* like it, that's wonderful - people here actually hear what's going on way more than friends and family - it's very gratifying. And yeah, you're right about the clothes, which is weird, cuz I hardly wear any when I track (it's a very hot room). I'm just noisy when I play, I guess - I can make even shorts and a teeshirt noisy. :D

barometer - so, you got *lots* of time on your hands, huh? Hmm... :D

boydrj - glad you like it :), but this one doesn't have a synth on it. Listen again. :D

Chrisi - thanks for listening and liking.

You too Toki - a military feel, huh? Yeah, it fits right in...

between recording takes, I let the ears rest....comment, etc. BUT...the main reason....the radio generally sucks and I'm toooo cheap to buy CD's:rolleyes: I'd rather listen to stuff here, anywazzz... even if it is half naked people shuffling in their underware:eek:

oh...speaking of clothing....did you know that the "real" professional refinishers of yacht finishes, find it best to take the boat out to sea, strip down, and then do their final varnish coats...? No dust, etc...

Record naked??....hhhmmm ... then I guess one might get squeaks!!

No synth ... Okay, I'm stumped...what is the sound that comes in at about the :50 mark ... are they strings?

They totally take this tune to a different place and sound great. I couldv'e swore it was a some kind of patch on the keys...

Anyway, I like it! :)

Okay, I have finally gone back and read some of the other posts here...a flute ... I must be drunk or something ... lol ...

Very good song Dobro-guitar sound nice and warm-I like the way the vocals start on a kind of off beat to the guitar. Your voice sounded good-Excellent musical section-wierd I cant tell if they are flutes or mellow trumpets or what...(mellotron?) My only complaint is its too short hehe...Always good to keep us wanting more.
