Anyone get any good deals on the bankruptcy?

My understanding is Brook Mays is shutting down after a run from 1922 to 2006.

I went to the shop but there wasn't anything really on sale, it was a scam. Example, the strings were marked up to $10 then 50% off for the "sale". When in reality I can already get the strings that cheap on any frkn internet site; some sale.
Read the Bankruptcy papers online, interesting.

GUITAR CENTER has even less competition, as Broook Mays was #2 in Dallas area. MARS went bankrupt around 2000.

I wonder if it was to get out of the $21 million "slander type lawsuit" Brook Mays lost to First Act in 2004 or so?

Another one bites the dust.........

Just wondering if anyone got any good deals or if their Online Store Inventory will be liquidated?

Funny you should post this. A local store, McMurray Music (known locally as McMarkup) went out of business. I hadn't been by the place in a few months and I was in the neighborhood. There was nothing left in the store and a sales guys told me they were owned by Brook Mays as of about 5 years ago and the parent company just went bankrupt. Not that I had any great affection for McMurray Music but they were one of the original local shops in the area.

Yeah, my local one (Duncan Music) is closing. I haven't been in since they posted the going out of business signs, but I may just to check out the "deals." I did go in there a couple of months ago for some drumsticks and their inventory was absolutely terrible. They only had about 10 guitars on the wall (usually 40-50). I wonder if they knew this was coming and just decided not to restock?

i've worked for john abit... strange cat... i heard from another exemplyee that he's trying to restart but having problems... seems he sold the name with the biz and now cant use his own name... the location he owns amd was just leased to brooks/mays....

in the bankruptcy doc's there was several "sub" company names I'd never heard of. I don't have the link but its out there. a bunch of lawyer gobbledegook.

I hadn't realised BMMusic was sued by First Act, $21 million...the jury was swayed big time.

Personally I hate to see Brook Mays go. Old family business from 1922 or some shit. They were alright, not really a Guitar Center, more pianos and band instruments with minor guitar stuff. Their online store was like most, not bad. Competition is healthy. I guess GC can raise their prices some?

I was curious if anyone got a great deal. I recall Mars going out.
They had really cheap prices then all the prices went up for the closeout sale.

When Mars folded I got a nice 4047 for $250. By the time I found McMurray was going, they were open but everything was gone.

Sounds like Guitar Center is stepping up.

The bankruptcy includes Brook Mays Music and companies it does business as, including Zeswitz Music, Caldwell Music, H&H Music, Larson Music, McMurray Music, McFadyen Music, Pearson Music, Duncan Music and Dunham’s Music.

Last time I was there they still hadn't really reduced the prices? But people were buying up stuff, that really wasn't marked down.
