I just "accidentally" dropped my Talman T-71 artcore and broke one of the tuning machines... are tuning machines standard( as far as sizing goes) or should I only replace with Ibanez approved machines? I am assuming that I will need to replace all 6. Thanks for any input!!!!

Tuning machines are pretty standard. That is not to say they are all the same, but that they fall into several catagories. Take it to a good repair shop that has been in business for a long time (like mine, not that it will do you much good, living in another state and all), and they are likely to have either a used gear or a bunch of new single gears from sets they broke up for other idio....umm, unfortunate guitar players. :D :p

If you can't find a single, they are pretty hard to buy, so you are going to have to get a full set. Pretty much no matter what you are going to have a real bitch of a time finding an exact replacement, which is fine as there are better gears out there.

If you DO chose to go with a full set of upgraded gears, may I suggest Gotoh 510s. There is no better gear on the market, and while they are price accordingly, they are not THAT much more expensive, and they really are better.

Ibanez and the other manufacturers of guitars do not make machine heads. They out source them. I doubt that there are many manufacturers of machine heads worldwide. They make to the customers' requirements/price, usually the latter. Gothoh no doubt make for other people without their name on them. The same with guitar strings.

Schaller tuners fit exactly, even the locking screw. Ibanez machines are Grover copies so a Grover should fit also. The pegs may be a little different so if looks matter you may want to change them all.

ibanez is notorious for taking too long to get replacemnt parts..... UPGRADE!!

From what I can tell Ibanez take longer over a lot of things because of their strict QC. Thats a good thing in my book :)

Thanks everyone for your replies! I'll look into the gotoh, but my budget probably wont alllow it... unless I can find a similar loooking single machine, I think I'll need to replace all 6. thanks again!

i am an idiot I know ;)

You want cheaper?

I have a couple sets of the Kluson knock-offs, they work and fit fine.
