This song was written and performed by a friend of mine.(with
me pretending to be an engineer)You probably wont be able to
tell from the lyrics, but the the poor guy recently got dissed by
his ole lady.
This song is supposed to be "new country",but to me it is an 80's
rock ballad. My friend doesnt take production pointers very well.
The direct acoustics were his idea(that really chaps my ass because I have a matched set of mxl 603's and a matched set of ksm109's),as was the heavy hand on the effects.
Give it a listen and be ruthless with your critiques of the song and
the mix.The title is letting go.

Dragonworks, the reason I am such an asshole is because my
mom never abused me and my dad never fucked me in the ass.
If only I had been mistreated as a youth,I could of grown up to
be a wonderful person like you.

letting go

overall mix level is low....
I had to turn it up big time to listen for nuances.....

direct guitars sound....well....direct...........

as long as that's what he wants....
compression levels are good on the guit but there is just a slight ringing on the high end...
The vox is tracked and mixed well...
the harmony vox sits nice in the mix...
electric guit could come in a little higher and be a little louder......
hmmmmm........
almost sounds sort of like you did a fade in on the electric guit....a long one....
bass is just a tad low in the mix on my monitors...

decent mix man...
sounded like Gun's and Roses to me too...
good performance by your friend...

You were to busy beatin up your mom when you were six to ever grow up.

dragonworks - why can't you keep your bullshit in the cave? He posted a song, and you started shit..

it's you who is being a dick here..

Whew, it's getting nasty in here.

Nice intro. Acoustic's a little bright for my tastes, but tastes are just tastes, I suppose.

I'd have to put this closer to Country than '80s rock. :-) Then again, to me, '80s rock is Motley Crue, The Fixx and Van Halen.

It's a nice song, though it sounds like a permanent intro to me so far. I keep wanting it to kick in and take off somewhere. Again, just my taste/expectations at work.

Well-recorded. Good guitar work. Nice harmonies and vox. Mixed well. Just a couple of guitar EQ issues for me. Good job.

Piltdown Man

Except for all that on-topic stuff by Piltdown man, this is the greatest song thread ever.

I won't bitch about the direct acoustics, b/c your ass is already chapped enough, lol. Actually, they don't sound bad on the strummed stuff...it's just the arpeggiation where they sound like sitars, lol.

I'm also catching a little over-compression on the vocal - I like the backups...lead strays a bit in places...but that's more of a performance thing.

My biggest complaint would be with the bass...I can hear it trying to do some really cool countpoint stuff, but there's no definition, so it just washes out.

Have a great day, lol
