Hi kids,

Most of the gear I record with is british made (itam 8 track, brenell mini 8, brenell 2track, zoot horn mixer), so I thought it would be cool to find a bunch of british mics and other outboard gear.

I'm thinking I'll need A vocal mic, kick, sm57 type dynamics and overheads.

Anybody have any ideas on makes/models to look out for.

Cheers

also check out hebden

for outboard take a look at DAV electronics

I don't own any of this gear btw so don't ask for my opinion on any of it. just some british gear manufactureres I'm aware of.

Coles make some very highly regarded mics and used to design and make a lot of stuff for the BBC. DAV was setup by an ex Decca design engineer so I would imagine he knows what he's doing.

I know nothing about hebden at all.

I think Hebden is, at least part of, what used to be Calrec. I think there is some sort of Calrec still in existence too, but there's some kinda connection.

Hebden Bridge is just about ten minutes' drive from me ... which makes me think of another manufacturer with the name of the area I live in ... Wharfedale. Not sure if anything of theirs is made in Britain any more though!!! :D

Aren't the red 5 mics Scottish? or is it just a scottish distribution agent for chinese mics?

That's my understanding of Red 5 mics.

As far as I'm aware Coles, Hebden and DAV all design and build in Britain as well as having HO's here.

Thanks guy, this is just the kind of info i'm after.

I think the reason i'm looking fo british stuff mainly is because they seem to have quite unique characteristics, and the designs can be extaordinaryand quite charming, especially the old stuff.

Keep it coming...
