I just purchased the MOTU 828 and am still working it out in trying to get things right in my computer. (also, don't have amp to hear it in my bookshelf speakers well)

I have a shure pg58 hooked up, and I can get it to record. But, the only way I can hear the levels is through headphones right now. I still can't tell if the signal is that loud. Should it be? What should I be expecting from this MOTU 828?

I have until may 27 to get my money back, other wise I must do a trade in.

Any opinions or warnings about the MOTU, or anyone know of better alternatives within the same price range?

Thanks! peace.

I have been using a Motu 828 for a few months now. It has some problems on a PC. I am told it works very well on MACs.
I am using a P3 700. I had lots of trouble until I bought a firewire card with TI chipset. If you are using a PC and don't need firewire support, I think you should go for something that comes with a PCI interface card. I bought the 828 because I want to use it on the road with my Thinkpad and a firewire PCMCIA adapter.
You need your recording program to show you the record level. Most audio interfaces depend on the software to show levels.
