after recordin hiphop for some time im at a high enough level to get some new equiptment. I just bought a AKG c 3000 b mic. now im looking for a new soundcard/mixer/preamp

i have no idea where to start. I dont have a lot of money so im mainly looking under 200 dollors, and im using cool edit right now. I want good sound, and i need something with phantom power because that is what my mic requires. thats all i know.

any suggetsions on where to start?

what kind of soundcards are good, what kinda or mixers or preamps are good..

right now im mainly looking at soundcards cuz i have an onboard card that really isnt cutting it right now..

thanks for any help.

You can get a 2nd hand staudio dsp2000 c-port for 200. I'ts got 2 xlr mic inputs with phantom power.

In the $200 range you can get the M-Audio Audiophile 2-input soundcard ($90) and a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer with 4 very usable preamps ($96)

sorry for the misunderstanding, i ment around 200 for the souncard, plus some for the preamp.

I second the Yamaha MG10/2 mixer. I just picked one up...decent preamps for the money.

How many tracks do you need to record at once?

If you don't need more than 2, an audiophile or E-mu will do the job.

Otherwsie next step up is an M-Audio Delta 44 with 4 ins 4 outs. They go for around $150

i record one track at a time, the most 2, but is audiphiles quaility as good as the m-audio?

I would go with the M-Audio Audiophile 2496. I just got one, along with the Yamaha MG10/2 and I'm very happy with the setup.

The Audiophile 2496 is made by M-Audio
