Hello! I am brand new to home recording and I would like several suggestions on how to get started. I am also new to this forum. I have a guitar, Line6 pod, and a new home computer. What else do I need, and what software would be easy to start out with? Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!!!

Joel

Your first step is some recording software. You need to decide on a price range first. If you have $300 to spend then Cubase or Sonar are the way to go (Logic is great too but a little tricky for the beginner). If you have limited funds then I would recommend Cubasis VST 3.0 or Cakewalk's Home Studio 2002. Both are pretty easy to get started with and offer alot of bang for the buck. I don't know what soundcard you are using, but if it is a low end Soundblaster then I would recommend picking up a semi-pro card for recording. I would recommend the Audiophile 2496. It has both WDM and ASIO drivers and very low latency and is now down to $159!

Thanks for the link. I think I have a SoundBlaster card. It has 64 something for video graphics. Do you stick recommend an Audiophile card? I purchased the computer in December. As far as the other software, I know nothing about any of it. Is $300.00 pretty reasonable? Do you know if Micro Logic is very easy to use. It was suggested by someone else. Thanks again for the help!!

Stick with the Soundblaster for now and get to know the basics of recording. You can get a better soundcard later.

Get yourself this free multitrack software:

http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/SoftwareHouse/Products/Audio_Master/Freeware/freeware.html

Maybe Goldwave for editing:

http://www.goldwave.com

After you try the gear you already have, you will be able to make better choices.

Do you have a mic already?

You'll find all kinds of free software here:

Good luck!

Yeah...I have to agree with Giaschel. I think I got a little carried away there:)

Get to know your way around a sequencer and audio editor first...then upgrade.

Thanks

Thanks for all of the tips. Please keep them coming.

Thank you for all the links. I went to Digital Sound Planet and registered for free software but I am unsure which one to go with. I have never used midi of any kind before. I don't have a mic yet but my computer has a small one. I'm not even sure where to hook the pod up to. Like I said, I am NEW to all of this. More help is STILL GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! Thanks! Joel
