Hi, I am brand new here. I am in a Celtic band and have recorded
using their equipment for a few years, but now I want to try recording for myself at home on the computer.
I know I need a mic, and a pre-amp and a soundcard, and software and then a c.d. burner, but that is all I know.
I am willing to spend a few thousand if I have to.
I play penny whistle and would need "something" to make the sounds of harps, fiddles, and other instruments to accompany
me. HELP!! WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY FOR ME TO START!
Thanks, Lolly

You've come to the right place. Start by doing a research here at the site with the site search engine. Also go to the home page and there are lots of tips there. You will first have to decide which route you want to go, that is, analog,
digital stand alone, computer, adat, etc. They all have their advantages and disadvantages so you have to be sure what you need and only what you need to start. I am sure some others will chime in here soon that have alot more knowledge than I.
Welcome to the site and glad to have you aboard matey.

Yeah, do what Dragon says. That's good advice.

In the mean time,,,,,,,,,,

Since I have some free time on my hands, I would gladly buy a new sound card, pre, mic, mic stand, software and anything else you need. While your reading all there is about recording, I could hook up all that new equipment for you, in my home, and test it out to make sure you have the quality equipment that you would require for your own home recording. It shouldn't take more than five or six months for you to completely read everything Dragonworks suggested you read, and during that time I could test your new CD burner under very heavy use.
Then when your ready to begin recording, I could box everything up, including the receipts, and send it to you with carefully written documentation on my findings during my months of testing.

That's what I'd do if I were you.
How 'bout it???
Ok??

Seriously, read what there is to read, there is tons of info.
And welcome to homerec.
glad to have ya.

LMAO :D

But seriously Lollycross. You should do as much reading and research here as you can. You will find a lot of good material and a lot of helpful people. :D

I owe my soul to HR.com

You have deffinitly made the first step. Homerecording.com is by far and away the best place on the net for what you are interested in. Have at it man. And I have to say that it is cool that you don't just want to bang out some 4 chord snores. But something different. God for you. I mean I won't ever buy a Celtic CD but I am glad that someone will.
