Hi everyone,
This a bit embarrassing...but we're all in this together, so why not?
I'd like to pick your expert brains, if I may. I've been into mostly classical music and rock, but I recently started to make my own awful music using music software and it's caused my ears to prick up at electronica/dance/funk/hip hop and the like. However, I own just the one hip hop album, and that was a complementary De La Soul cover disc that came with a magazine. That's how much I know about this stuff.
Finished laughing yet?
Could you please recommend three albums that you think fit the following categories? I am a complete newbie to funk and hip hop so don't worry about suggesting stuff that you think might be too obvious. Anyway, the categories:
1. IMAGINATIVE SAMPLING
2. BLOCK-CRUSHING BEATS
3. CATCHY AND FUNKY (properly funky, not house music funky
)
Just three picks, please, or this thread will go haywire. If you think my categories are awful, say so and I'll change them. This thread might be helpful to newbies like me - and maybe even the old hands among you might get a tip or two.
Why three picks? Hey, it's the magic number...
